The North Star of a digital health startup

The North Star

Have you ever heard of a North Star metric? It is believed that this is the big goal that is predictive of a company’s long-term success. This metric should lead to revenue, reflect customer value and be measurable. And since we have very ambitious plans of becoming the global leaders in digital therapeutics for children, then let’s talk about why we are on our path.

First and foremost, we at Triumf Health would like to have a visible and lasting impact on the successful implementation of our disruptive game-based technology across the globe. We are on this path as we set out to answer the growing unmet needs of children. This can only be achieved by assessing and addressing the social risks of implementing our technology, collecting evidence and experience in the implementation processes and consolidating the acquired knowledge.

Becoming the global leader in digital therapeutics

As argued by Torous and colleagues (2020), in the light of the coronavirus crisis, it is now the time to “accelerate and bend the curve” on digital health as increased investments in digital health today will yield unprecedented access to high-quality mental health care. While the uptake of health technology solutions is still in its early stages in many countries, our platform significantly contributes to the increased access and quality of mental health services. This is especially important for the whole industry to foster innovations to reach the majority phase involving wide coverage and usage.

At the same time, as we set out to bend the curve and accelerate quickly from early adopters phase to broader societal acceptance of eHealth services, it is crucial that good practices are implemented simultaneously. This includes setting the bar high for ethical and privacy issues, the validation of psychosocial impact, but also how solidly the whole user path is gamified so that sustained engagement with the service can be achieved. Long term broad scale benefits can only be reached with sustained engagement with the app, and gamifying the whole scope of user motivations and not just achievement related components, is crucial in penetrating the population widely.
