Gaming conference insights

GameDev Days 2017 Сonference was awesome. Read more about my very first experience attending a gaming conference!

GameDev Days 2017 Conference took place on 7-8 April in Tallink SPA & Conference Hotel. This was my first time to attend a conference on that topic. The conference was mainly targeted to developers but I was also able to gain useful knowledge from here and there without any proper background.

I attended all talks from business track on the first day of the conference. I think I was the most impressed with Sjoerd de Jong who created a tower defense game live in 2 hours using Unreal Engine. I also learned how team diversity can lead to excellence and got several funding and traction trips. But by the end of the day I felt like I know so little of the field and it’s tough to survive in this scene that is developing so rapidly. It really requires incredible commitment and huge amounts of man hours to create something awesome.

The second day was shorter and I think I got the most useful tips from Cupcake Entertainment. They were going through their own experiences with accelerators and how they went from zero in revenue to growth and $1M deal.

This conference made me think that game development is complicated but also fun and challenging so now I started taking courses in game development and design and C#. I have already started using Unity 3D and I can’t wait to learn more!
